in the The beginning...

The Good Thoughts Bank is all about converting the bad to the good. For the past few years I have noticed that the whole positvity/mindfulness thing is well and truly trending. It seems everywhere I look I see some blog post or article talking about the benefits of being positive, the need to create our own happiness, the danger of negative thinking, blah blah blah. I won't lie, they've drawn me in and for the past year I have made the conscious decision to be more positive. But the truth is, it's bloody difficult! I'm all for the flowery, wishy washy, laa di daa pieces about rainbows and unicorns, but they can only do so much for the sceptical realist over here.

Negative thoughts are constantly peeping up into our minds, and I have learnt that the trick to dealing with them is not to try to ignore or dispel them, but to actually listen to them and figure out why they are appearing. By getting to the root of the bad thoughts, you treat the cause not just the symptoms. By doing so you learn to see the negatives in a positive light, and you are able to convert bad thoughts into good ones. Which is where the Good Thoughts Bank comes in. Within it I will be depositing various bits and bobs, including pieces about negative thoughts we all have and practical ways to analyse them, and use them to create good thoughts.

Also included in here will be a whole range of other feel-good resources - quotes, stories, books, movies, videos, photos, causes, thinkers - that all help to inspire and create more good thoughts for you all. All of these can be withdrawn from the Bank free of charge, whenever and wherever you need them. You don't even need an account!

I'm always looking for contributions to the Bank, the more varied and different, the better! My biggest goal right now is to deposit a minimum of 366 Good Thoughts in the Bank so that you can make at least one withdrawal every single day for the next year. If you feel you'd like to share your good thoughts, be they your own blog posts, your favourite songs, a particularly special quote or poem, a photo, maybe even a memory or story, feel free to send them in here. All contributions will be attributed.

Sending lots of good thoughts.
